White House Secretary of the State, Antony Blinken, may meet with the top Chinese diplomat Wang Yi on Thursday, and it will be the latest in a new chain of meetings between Washington and Beijing. Wang Yi is the top Foreign Policy Chief for the Chinese Communist Party, and he will attend a diplomatic gathering in place of his country’s Foreign Minister, Qin Gang, as he is facing some health issues.

The meeting will be held on the sidelines of Jakarta’s ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ gathering. It will become Blinken’s second meeting with a top-level American official in less than a month. Recently Blinken visited China and called his meeting candid and “constructive.”

A senior US official told the media that the Biden administration has been feeling a little closer to China and will have normalized relations again in diplomacy. Blinken’s visit to China in mid of last month was the first trip by any White House top official in a long time, and very after the US Treasury Secretary, Yellen, visited China last week. Another American official, Climate Envoy John Kerry, is about to depart for China. These recent events show a rise in the frequency of both countries’ talks. Both Blinken and Yellen claimed they had made some progress in steps to normalize the relations.

After Blinken’s recent trip to Beijing, he said there had been a clear cleavage in the relations of both powers, and both understood the need for talks to cool down the temperature. Both countries tried to make the talks fruitful. He said there was no way China and the United States might agree on all the terms, but the terms they decided for the trip succeeded in that and made some progress in moving forward.

After her visit last week, Janet said he made about ten hours of meetings during her two days visit, and she believed it made some steps forward in mending the China-US soured relations. Both the visits described wellness about their trips and declared progress in taking both countries closer.

US Seems to be Trying to Mending the Relations

A senior US administration official told a news agency that there had been several issues remaining to be focused including some military issues. Several military-to-military communication channels need attention. He says Beijing demands the US lift sanctions from the Chinese defense chief to start the conversation, but till now, America has not considered it. According to the official, even if the issue was resolved, there are still numerous reasons why cooperation, coordination, and working-level contact cannot be established. Therefore, this does not seem to be a feasible solution in the near future.

Biden’s team has been considering narrowing down the issues where there they could make some progress in establishing productive talks. According to a senior administration official, the next course of action is to identify specific areas where we can work together toward a common goal. These areas could include issues such as climate, health, or counter-narcotics.

Although Secretary of State Blinken mentioned last month in Beijing that the US and China would establish a working group to address the issue of fentanyl entering the US, there has not been any observable advancement in this matter.
