US Stops Sharing Nuclear Arms Data With the Kremlin

In response to Moscow’s violations of the New START (Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty) of nuclear arms control, the United States has decided to withhold certain notifications from Russia, which includes updates on missile and launcher locations. Washington refers to this move as a retaliatory countermeasure. The United States claims Russia has violated the agreement.

The State Department of the White House stated on Thursday that It had ceased Russian access to the status and locations of American nuclear missile launchers. The United States would continue to provide notifications for intercontinental and submarine-launched ballistic missile launches.

The New START treaty allows US and Russia to check and inspect each other’s nuclear facilities, which Washington claims Moscow has limited inspectors from visiting its facilities. The United States has ceased any activities of Russian personnel in nuclear facilities and canceled any visas issued and pending for inspectors and air-crew for Moscow’s New START(Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty). According to a State Department fact sheet released on Thursday, diplomatic clearance for Russian inspection aircraft has also been revoked.

According to new Statements issued, the United States would not provide tele-metric information to Russians about any launch of American intercontinental and submarine-launched ballistic missiles. Such information includes all details collected during a test flight of a missile, and after this treaty, both US and Moscow were bound to exchange that information annually.

The fact sheet released on Thursday describes that States Department has taken legal retaliatory measures after the Russian violation of the ongoing new START agreement. It is further said Moscow’s purported abeyance of the START treaty is legally invalid.

Putin Would not Participate In the Treaty

The United States has propagated all the counter-measures to Russia and conveyed its interest in the continuity of the agreement and reversing the Counter-measures in case Moscow is willing to comply.

Kremlin President Vladimir Putin has not formally withdrawn himself from the new START treaty; however, it announced in February that Russia would not participate in the vital foundation of the Washington-Moscow atomic arms control treaty. Russia declared that it could not allow its nuclear facilities to be inspected by the US under the START when America and its NATO allies have primarily aimed to defeat Kremlin in the Ukraine war. NATO and its allies have announced to defeat Moscow in the Ukraine war and supported Ukraine much in this regard, and Russia refused to allow inspection under the treaty, so it ended it.

In March, Moscow declared it would always admire the points set to control the nuclear weapon, and it had not withdrawn from START. Kremlin Foreign Minister also expressed they would continue providing details of Russian planned test launches of ballistic missiles, which is a vital part of the treaty. For decades, notices of ballistic launches have been critical in maintaining nuclear strategic stability between Russia and the US. These notices ensure that both countries can accurately interpret each other’s actions and prevent misunderstandings when a test launch is mistaken for a preemptive nuclear missile attack.

This treaty is also essential and has historical value as America and Russia collectively possess almost ninety percent of all the warheads worldwide, enough to destroy the world several times.
