Now the search and rescue operation for the disappeared actress shifted to a recovery operation. Still, the main goal for the team is to bring Rivera, 33, home to her family. She vanished from Lake Piru on 8th July evening. According to the local authorities, she went to the lake and rented a boat with her four-year-old son.
On Thursday, Dyer said that the boat set to return about 04:00 p.m. local time. An employee of the rental boat company found the boat on the north end of Lake Piru. The son of Rivera was on the boat, whereas, she was nowhere to be found. The boy was wearing a life jacket, and another was on the boat.
Investigators found a purse and identification of Rivera, but no further clues on the boat. Search efforts started instantly after the overdue time and continued until about 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Furthermore, the search operation resumed again on Thursday morning and will continue until sunset and continue at daybreak if necessary, according to the sheriff’s office.
Low visibility with numerous trees and plants make search operation difficult
Sgt. Kevin Donoghue, the Ventura County Sheriff says at another press conference that the dock video reveals that Rivera and her son was only two persons getting on the boat. Investigators tried to investigate Rivera’s son, and they didn’t get any important points. The boat not fastened when found; also, it was not near the shore. The zone where the boat was present is around thirty feet deep.
According to Donoghue, the lake has very low visibility with several plants and trees in the operation area, which makes it unsafe for drivers as well as for search operation. Captain Eric Buschow, a spokesperson for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, previously said that the boy and his mother went swimming and that she did not come back on the boat.
On Thursday morning, Dyer confirmed the child’s good health and his presence with the family. CNN approached the representatives of Rivera for additional details. The authorities closed the lake during the operation, and it involves over a hundred people. Expert dive teams from nearby counties of San Luis Obispo, Los Angeles, and Tulare are also taking part in the search operation. Others are using boats, personal watercraft and helicopters to look for clues.
Moreover, search teams use sonar and other helpful technology to assist and speed up the recovery operation. For the moment, they focused their search on the north end of the lake. It’s too early to say what happened with the actress, according to Donoghue. The teams are still trying and investigating to find out happening.
