Washington Post Fact-Checkers Slam Joe Biden for Georgia Voting Law Claims

The Washington Post Fact-Checker slammed Tuesday American President Joe Biden for falsely claiming a new Georgia voting law ends voting hours early, awarding him its severest rating of ‘Four Pinocchios’ for diffusing the misinformation.

Last week, Mr. Biden repeatedly claimed a law signed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp would make it harder for working-class persons to vote.

Biden expressed concerns about is how un-American this whole move is. Moreover, it Is sick. Deciding that they’re going to end voting at 5 o’clock when working-people are just getting off work.

United States President doubled down the following day in a written statement that among the outrageous parts of that new state law, it ends voting hours early so working people cannot cast their vote after their shift is over.

Glenn Kessler, Washington Post Fact-Checker, wrote Joe Biden’s claim could not be validated

Kessler wrote that one could realize a flub in a news conference. But then that same claim popped up in an official presidential declaration. Not a single expert they consulted who has studied the law understood why Mr. Biden made this claim, as this was the law section that expanded early voting for many Georgians. Somehow, Joe Biden managed to turn that expansion into a restriction intended for working people, calling it among the law’s outrageous parts.

Glenn Kessler continued, noting some experts feel US President may have been briefed on an outdated version of the bill that in Georgia, balloting places are open from 7 AM to 7 PM on Election Day. If you are in a queue by 7 PM, you are allowed to cast your ballot. Nothing in the new law changes those rules. However, the law did make some changes to early voting. However, experts say the net effect was to expand the opportunities to cast a vote for most Georgians, not restrict them.

Moreover, Kessler wrote that Joe Biden might have gotten confused amid the new law makes clear that early voting can be directed starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 a.m., as opposed to the previous framing that noted early voting should be run during regular working hours.

He added that the law also allows individual counties to set the hours anywhere between 7 AM and 7 PM. Therefore, the practical effect of the 5 PM reference in the law is minimum. They sought a clarification from the White House for a reason for President’s comments but didn’t receive an on-the-record response.

Biden framed his complaint in terms of a slap at working people

He wrote that Biden framed his complaint in terms of a slap at working people. The new law would end voting time at 5 o’clock when working-people are just getting off work, so working-people cannot cast their vote after their shift is over. Moreover, many listeners might assume he was speaking about voting on Election Day, not early voting.

However, Election Day hours weren’t changed. An additional mandatory day of early voting on Saturday was added, and two days of early voting on Sunday were codified as a choice for counties.

Joe Biden’s characterizations have also drawn push back from Georgia’s election officials. Brad Raffensperger, Georgia State Secretary, stated that Democrats and state media outlets asserting that Georgia’s election reform will limit voting access are just partisan talking points, not facts.

Moreover, Gabriel Sterling, Raffensperger’s chief operating officer, echoed the valuation. He said that the claim of voter suppression has an equal level of truth as voter fraud claims in the last election.
